On April 21st, the town of Milang will be the first to see a new documentary from television and film producer, Jethro Heller.

The film, commissioned by the Australian Horizons Foundation (based in Far North Queensland) examines the difficulties and challenges that people living in remote or rural areas face every day.

Heller tracks the progress of the Foundation’s “We are Here” Team, as they raise funds and promote awareness of the issues, in small and remote towns all over Australia.

The principal focus is the charming and beautiful town of Milang.

“I felt that Milang was the perfect example of what a town looks like 100 years after Industry and services are withdrawn from a town” Mr Heller continued “It is also a great example of community resilience, and reinventing a community ”

Featuring interviews with locals, the Governor of South Australia, Hieu Van Le, Rebekha Sharkie MP, and landowners from various parts of Australia, the film is aimed squarely at city audiences, in the belief that many in the urban world are unaware of what is going on in their own back yard.

Prior to television broadcast and online release, “We Are here” will premiere 8pm April 21st at the Milang Institute, Amaroo St, Milang.

  • Sausage Sizzle available for puchase from 7pm provided by the Milang CFS
  • Sweets & Treats, tea, coffee & soft drinks provided by Growing Life Connections
  • 8pm Screening of the Documentary
