We will celebrate the refurbishment of the Milang Institute kitchen with a Friday Feast on 9th April.  Roast Beef and Bread and Butter Pudding are on the menu and the cooks are looking forward to christening the new stove, microwave and refrigerator.  Bookings are essential at MOSHCC 85370687.

Thanks to Community Benefit SA who provided the funding for the renovations and to the volunteer members of the Milang Institute Committee who organised the equipment and tradesmen.

Expressions of interest are invited from motivated and enthusiastic people for the position of Lakes Hub Coordinator.  This position is based at Milang but has the responsibility to support the Lake Alexandrina and Lake Albert communities.

The successful applicant will utilise community development principles and sound natural resource management practices to establish the Lakes Hub, providing community engagement and capacity building to support the Lower Lakes Bioremediation and Revegetation Project.

The objective of the position is to;

  • Establish a trusted, inclusive focal point in the community (the Lakes Hub), which provides comprehensive information and supports community engagement in the planning, science, on ground works and learnings of the Lower Lakes Bioremediation and Revegetation Project
  • Provide executive support to a project management committee to provide community drive and ownership of the project.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, community developed and owned community engagement strategy to involve local communities in managing the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate the Lakes Hub project as outlined in the funding agreement "Community Engagement in Lower Lakes Planning and Management" between the Milang Progress Association Inc and the State Government.

The successful applicant must be committed to community development principles and have previous experience in natural resource management in a community setting.

The Lakeliners 2009 collection of short stories and  from Milang's "Lakeliners" writers' group is now available.

 

Karyn Bradford, the Coordinator of the Milang Old School House Community Centre, launched the book at the Community Centre's Christmas Party on Friday 11th December.

 

This is the third anthology by the Lakeliners, and is available for purchase at the Milang Old School House Community Centre, or at Alexandrina Crafts in Milang.

 

For the first time the book is now also available for purchase online, in both a paperback form and e-book format for download.

 

The online price for the book is $14 (US) for the paperback and $8 (US) for the e-book version
