			<title>New community gardens for the physical health and well being of Strathalbyn and Districts.</title>
			<link>http://moshcc.com.au/joomla/content/view/59/40/</link>
			<description>
The Life With Gusto Project, supported by the Australian Government Department of Health Ageing, is setting up community gardens at Strathalbyn, Milang and Clayton Bay, as a major part of its promotion of nutritious eating and physical activity in the Strathalbyn districts.

Local residents and organisations of Strathalbyn have expressed an interest in the vacant lot behind Myranth House in High St, the R-6 Eastern Fleurieu Campus garden and even a proposal to locate vegetable gardens in private backyards. Further interest was expressed at a recent meeting of the Strathalbyn Garden Club, with special guest, Tess Minnett of Duck Flat Community Garden.

Karen Barrett of Goolwa is the new Life With Gusto Community Gardens Coordinator, appointed to work with local communities to set up gardens at Milang, Clayton Bay and Strathalbyn. She is currently completing her certificate in Youth Work, has a background in youth projects and programs and is an active and original member of the Cittaslow Goolwa Community Garden.

Already the communities of Clayton Bay and Milang have held public meetings and voted to revitalise the garden at Milang Campus, and establish a community garden at Clayton Bay Community Hall.

&amp;ldquo;There is no better way to bring people together than by growing nutritious fruit and vegetables,&amp;rdquo; said Karen Barrett. &amp;ldquo;Community gardens are great for healthy exercise, getting to know people, sharing knowledge resources and turning ordinary places into extraordinary ones&amp;rdquo;, she said.

The community gardens and their supporters are looking for local volunteers who are motivated and enthusiastic and wish to develop skills in horticulture, organic or permaculture gardening. Also, volunteers will be given opportunities to grow their own fresh produce, to make good friends, take part in interesting, learning activities, and even work towards qualifications in Active Volunteering.

For further information contact Karen Barrett or Don Chapman, Life With Gusto, Milang Old School House Community Centre, 8537 0687, email karen.barrett@moshcc.com.au

			<title>MOSHCC Opens Its Doors With a Biggest Morning Tea The Day Before World Turtle Day!</title>
			<link>http://moshcc.com.au/joomla/content/view/57/40/</link>
			<description>
The Milang Old School House Community Centre held a monster Open Day, Biggest Morning Turtle Tea Party and celebration of World Turtle Day on Friday 22 May 2009.

They held their Turtle Tea Party in support of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 2009 by making turtle cup cakes and were thrilled that over $200 was made to help the Cancer Council continue its research, education, prevention and patient support services.

At the same time student tour guides conducted tours of Milang Campus Turtle Sanctuary and told their story of rescue of the Lower Lakes turtles.

Ann Mason of the Teaching and Learning for Peace Foundation read Turtle Stories in Evelyn Roth&amp;rsquo;s Amazing Inflatable Turtle. Evelyn&amp;rsquo;s Inflatables have been featured all over the world and especially at Womad for the past ten years.

While it was a day of celebration it was also a day to say goodbye to Lyn Unwin, who has volunteered tirelessly at the MOSH for over four years. She will be missed more than she can imagine.

Over a 100 people attended and enjoyed activities such as a bird watch walk, a history walk, a creating with clay workshop, a web based interactive learning display and Evelyn Roth conducted several web weaving workshops. John Bradford sang songs from go to woe, with Councillor Rod Potter jamming on harmonica at the bitter end .

For many people the highlight of the day was a Friday Feast of &amp;lsquo;Save The Murray Curry&amp;rsquo;, &amp;lsquo;Lower Lakes Lasagna&amp;rsquo;, accompanied by, you guessed it, turtle bread.

			<description> The Milang Old School House Community Centre is hosting free weaving workshops by local and international artist, Evelyn Roth, on Friday 22 May 2009. The first workshop will be held at the Milang Old School House Open Day Friday 22 May, then Wednesday 27 May, 3.30pm to 5.30pm and Wednesday 3 June 3.30pm to 5.30pm. <description>

Painting a Picture of HEALTHY EATING Physical Activity for Strath Districts

The &amp;ldquo;Life With Gusto&amp;rdquo; project is conducting a survey to create a realistic snapshot of the healthy eating and physical activity of children adults living in the Strathalbyn districts.

The survey will collect evidence that will inform the development of physical activity and nutritious eating programs and projects in the Strathalbyn area, such as community gardens, school lunch box programs, something for local kids to do on Saturdays and a family cycling day.

The latest breakthrough research from SA Health says that physical activity brings health benefits regardless of weight loss

People&amp;rsquo;s opinions about health and fitness, how they exercise, the state of their health, what they eat and what is needed in their local area will be sought and their answers will be treated confidentially.

Those who complete the survey will receive a free &amp;ldquo;Life With Gusto&amp;rdquo; healthy eating and physical activity showbag.

The survey is being done with the support of the Federal Department of Health and Ageing, and the Eastern Fleurieu Healthy Active Communities Network including Eastern Fleurieu School, Strathalbyn and District Health Service and Milang Progress Association.

			<title>Looking to the Future - Survey</title>
			<link>http://moshcc.com.au/joomla/content/view/42/40/</link>
			<description>
There is no doubt that much of the news about the Lakes is very gloomy at the moment. We need to work together to save the lakes and the lakes communities. Help us by completing this survey.

The Milang Progress Association Inc, Clayton Bay Community Association Inc and Langhorne Creek Progress Association would like some feedback in a HURRY from the community with the view to applying for some funding to create new opportunities around work, training, community life and volunteering.

The feedback from your responses will help to formulate a plan and actions that will boost the local economy, raise community spirits and also help to rehabilitate our precious environment through a bioremediation project around the Lakes and River.

			<title>More Than Your Navel</title>
			<link>http://moshcc.com.au/joomla/content/view/30/40/</link>
			<description> Howdy, this is Susan Brame the meditation teacher at MOSHCC with a bit of a plug for classes! Meditation has been hugely mystified and I like to keep things simple and definitely achievable. I believe all human beings are inherently spiritual and by learning meditation we are simply learning how to uncover the inner self or light that is already there inside each one of us. This can be challenging at first &amp;hellip; well it was for me. I compare it to learning to ride a bike or drive a car, seems pretty tricky at first but once you get the hang of it you begin to experience yourself in a whole new way, and suddenly you&amp;rsquo;re flying along!It is deeply satisfying to begin to experience the feelings of wholeness peace and connectedness that anyone who has learnt meditation will tell you about, and how by just doing twenty minutes of practice a day you can turn things around in your life in the most delightful way.Group practise is a great way to learn meditation, there is always time to share experiences, ask questions and be buoyed by the energy of a nice group of people with the same aim.I regard learning meditation as the single best thing I have ever done for myself simply because the spinoffs are so remarkably good. Millions upon millions of meditators the world over are getting heaps more than just good view of their navel I can assure you!! Join the meditation group on Thursday evenings, 7:30pm at MOSHCC (28 Daranda Tce, Milang)P.S. Warm comfy clothes and socks are a good idea...we make sure the room is cosy! </description>
